A Manifesto for the Next 50 Years of Management Research in Brazil
What kind of future do we want to build? Planting seeds to transform businesses and societies through administrative and accounting sciences
Humanity faces a future marked by the escalating climate crisis, wars, political polarization, and the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence. These issues are reshaping territories, labor relations, and management practices. Given this scenario, it is up to the academic community to reflect on its role in building desirable futures that are, at the same time, sustainable, socially just, and organizationally viable. Indigenous thinker Ailton Krenak observes that the future, when genuine, carries within it the memory of where we came from, so that it is not a rupture with the past, but rather its transformed continuity. It is in this spirit that we propose to reflect on what we cultivate: the researchers we train, the partnerships we build with society, and the criteria we define as relevant for publication. We invite the scientific community to plant these seeds with intention—by training researchers, engaging in dialogue with diverse organizations, and fostering research with social impact—so that, over the next 50 years, we may reap the fruits of businesses and societies transformed by the administrative and accounting sciences.
